Aqualillies Synchronized Swimming Classes
Eleven minutes of morning traffic delays, two hours behind at work, and approximately 131,002 seconds late on synchronizing your Swatch. You can barely keep your head above water.
So your timing is just right for Aqualillies. Already a splash on the Hollywood pool party circuit, the dazzling Esther Williams-era water ballet troupe is holding its first two-day workshops this weekend and next.
Suit up and, over the course of two 75-minute sessions, you’ll pick up sculling techniques, back layouts, ballet legs, torpedos, tuck turns, and marching. Then you’ll set your new skills to music by putting together a simple (yet graceful) routine.
If the 1920s luxury cruise liner-esque trappings of the Millenium Biltmore’s heated pool don’t inspire you to dive right in, the vintage Busby Berkeley flicks certainly will.
It’s a stroke of genius.
Workshops, January 16, 17, 23, and 24, Saturday and Sunday, at TheMillennium Biltmore Hotel, 506 South Grand Avenue, at West Fifth Street, Downtown (213-624-1011). Space available in sessions one (10:30-11:45 a.m.), two (noon-1:15 p.m.), and three (2-3:15 p.m.). To sign up, go to aqualillies.com.
